The annual 21st January Somali Press Day was on today Thursday celebrated in Somalia's exiled journalists association with the ceremony held at the Barak Hotel.

The ceremony was made possible to happen by Somali Exiled Journalist Association known (SEJASS) and was attended by various guests including Journalists, government officials including the minister of Information Dahir Mohamud Gelle who attended the ceremony through the phone who thanked and appreciated the organizers and excused that he had a lot work to do but wished to be there.
The minister also emphasized the importance of journalism and the hard work they are going through and wished them things will be ok. The minister also encouraged the journalists to solve their difference and unite so they can re-build their country and win the hearts and minds of the Somali community in and out.
Abdi Abbdule Jiri Boqor Somali Member of Parliament who was the guest of honor had expressed the need of freedom of press and media and encouraged the media to play an important role for restoring peace and stability to Somalia.
Ali Mohamed Noor Amerika the Somali ambassador to Kenya has also took part the ceremony through the phone and thanked all the journalists present and wished them next year prosperous and peaceful and said he also wished to be here but had pretty busy task to do.

The other prominent guests were former media men and women like Hassan Kuriya who has been in media over 30 years has told about the immensity of the day and gave a remarkable advice to all journalists by telling them to be always avoid impartiality and tell them they can play an important role Somali current situation if they make their voices heard and focus of programs that base on peace and interaction among the Somali community.
The other distinguished guest those talked about the importance of the day were also Osman Abdi noor Hashi an expert of journalism who has been in media for quite some time and compared the current media and ex-media which he both worked and gave the journalists tips to avoid writing violent words and word that create incitement.

Fu,ad Mohamed Elmi the chairman of board of director of Somali Exiled Journalists Association has also add his words of encouragements to the other participators by thanking the honorable guests and advising his colleagues to continue working hard no matter what consequence they face in and out Somalia .
