Somali Media Women Association condemned the injury of the Somali journalist Mohamed Yassin Isaaq.

Gunmen dressed in a Police uniform attacked and injured Somali journalist Mohamed Yassin Isaaq on Tuesday night in the central town of Galkayo , the provincial capital of Mudug region.
Mohamed was a reporter for the Voice of America (VOA) .the ruthless gunmen targeted him on the chest close to the heart. He is now being treated at a hospital in the town.
Medical sources in Puntland say the condition of the journalist is getting better.
The reason why this journalist was targeted is yet unclear but independent sources confirm that there has been a great misunderstanding between the Puntland administration and the media. Puntland authorities are notorious for harassing journalists and oppressing the freedom of expression.
Somali Media Women Association SOMWA said it was sorry and very worried about the situation under which the journalists in Somalia are working.
For the past two years the hostile crack down against freedom of speech or expression was on the increase and always getting worse and worse.
SOMWA is kindly requesting from Puntland estate to show respect and lenience to the voices of the voiceless and allow the media to operate independently.
We once again clarify that this kind of intimidation is meant do and say what we want or we will silence you,” said Mrs Marian Zeila Chairwomen of SOMWA.
Somalia became the second country where everyday and every hour journalists are harassed, jailed and killed, this year seven journalists were killed where some others were injured and others where arrested.
